Explore your Personal Purpose

Your Purpose. Your ‘Why’.

  • Defines who you are, what you want to contribute and reflects your passions, motivators and talents.
  • Defines what success looks like for you personally
  • Provides clarity in setting personal and career goals and anchors you so that you focus your energy on the things that truly matter to you.
  • Where there’s misalignment there’s frustration and friction – Does your personal purpose line up with your work, team or organisation? Can you express your purpose outside of work?

Explore your Purpose

  • Define your purpose from your Talent Profile under Talent
  • First set the visibility of your Purpose statement so you can get others’ support. They’ll get and email and be able to provide comments or feedback
  • If you’ve already created your personal purpose statement add it it, otherwise use the Help questions  to reflect on to help you craft your purpose
    • What do you help others with that seems natural or easy for you?
    • What are you amazing at– what do you do particularly well?
    • What are you doing when you feel most inspired?
    • What do you want to be known for?
    • What do you think you can contribute most to work, people or the community? What impact will you have?

Create your Purpose Statement

  • Use your answers to the questions to create your purpose statement.
  • Your Purpose statement summarises the contribution you’d like to make and the impact you’d like to have on others.
  • Use this simple format.
    • To….(insert what you want to do or contribute….So that (insert the impact you want to have)……..
    • e.g. To help people navigate work and life so that they can reach their full potential and feel fulfilled.
  • It doesn’t need to be perfect. Refine it at any time.

Reflect and Take Action

  • How satisfied you are that you’re currently living your purpose
  • Create a goal to address misalignment or close a gap. Be realistic, often small adjustments can have a big impact
  • If you’ve shared your purpose statement with your manager, have a proactive conversation with them so they can help you craft your role so that you can fulfil your purpose
  • Your Personal Purpose will appear on your Talent Profile so you can reflect on it regularly and stay on track as you grow your career
